Programs
Due in part to the late Christopher Reeve's spinal cord injury and aggressive advocacy, the world is finally beginning to acknowledge the possibility of a cure for paralysis. Research in the area of spinal cord injury (SCI) grows exponentially each year as scientists explore this frontier of medical miracles. Until that discover is made, however, the health of these spinal cord injury survivors must be optimized.
At the QUAD Foundation, we believe that there are two components to a quadriplegic individual's health: a physical state of wellbeing and a mental understanding of quadriplegia, from what a spinal cord injury means to how the Medicare program works.
Hope On Wheels
Hope On Wheels (H.O.W.) is our answer to physical wellbeing. This is our mobile rehabilitation unit which brings an ERGYS-2 F.E.S. bicycle to the home of our quadriplegic clients at no charge. This therapy has been used extensively by Dr. John W. McDonald III, the late Christopher Reeve's physician, resulting in a number of health benefits. Community Programs
Mental wellbeing is also a major part of functioning as a quadriplegic individual. A positive outlook is essential to living with quadriplegia, and in order to have a positive outlook, you must understand how to succeed. Knowledge is power. At the QUAD Foundation, we are available to answer questions for quads, as well as for their families and friends. A strong support system is crucial for success, so arming those that surround you with information about how to help you is one of the best things you can do. Our Community Programs are available for arming quads and their support systems with information to help them succeed.
We are always available to speak one-on-one either by phone or in person. We are also setting up a program where we will be making monthly rounds to local rehabilitation centers. To read more about our Community Programs or to make an appointment, click here.
